Our second born is one unique individual. There are reasons why she is called "Miss Demeanor" on my sidebar. If you know her personally, you know those reasons. :)
Anyway, she's funny. She's creative.
She's a little bit crazy.
And she's extremely passionate.
And by passionate, I mean that her reaction to everything, good or bad, is a scream. A LOUD scream. Good or bad.
She's in first grade. The first day of school, she did great. She went right in and had a wonderful day. The second day, she didn't like something about her clothes that she picked out, so she screamed and cried and continued her fit all the way to school. (We walk to school, so it was quite a lovely sight for all to see.) Then, she refused to go into the building, having to eventually be escorted in by the school counselor. Whew. Tough times, I tell ya. (Please know that she now LOVES her class and her teacher and is sad to leave them every day.)
A few weeks ago, following the school incident, she had given us some trouble with her behavior, causing much distress to me. Me ~ the one who is with her at the time of most of the behavior trouble. Honestly, I was worried about her and wondering if she would ever behave again. Seriously.
And then, there was a glimmer of hope.
Her daddy picked her up from school. As they were leaving, a little girl from her class, who is extremely shy, waved goodbye to our child with a big smile. My husband asked her about her little friend, and she told us that her friend didn't talk very much and she had decided to teach her speech during recess.
Speech.
Because she was concerned about her little friend.
It was the sweetest thing.
And then, this week, she was chosen from her class to be the "Citizen of the Month", because as her teacher said, "She always pays attention and does great work. And gets along with others."
Ok. Really?
So we went to her assembly this morning to see her receive her award. We clapped and cheered as she got her certificate and watched her wave hysterically at us.
We were so proud.
She's come a long way.

This is Miss D. and her wonderful teacher, who we absolutely love.
